Maimonides Medical Center - Generations of Providing Top-Quality Care


Based in Brooklyn, Nechama Rothberger, PharmD, currently serves as a clinical pharmacy specialist in emergency medicine with Maimonides Medical Center. There, Dr. Nechama Rothberger focuses on assisting in the treatment of the full range of urgent and critical care situations involving patients of all ages suffering cardiac arrest, seizures, drug overdoses, and other conditions. 

Maimonides Medical Center, established in 1911, appears on U.S. News & World Report’s listing of the best regional hospitals for 2018-2019. Over the more than 100 years of its existence, the hospital has focused on reaching out to provide top-quality care to all the patients in its service area, and on educating medical providers and the community in order to promote a higher standard of public health. 

Specialized divisions within the hospital include Children’s Hospital at Maimonides, the only Brooklyn-based medical center with a full range of pediatric services. Maimonides additionally offers an entire center dedicated to breast health that includes a state-of-the-art Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. 

Originally named the New Utrecht Dispensary, Maimonides Medical Center brought together a number of other, smaller dispensaries in 1919, becoming Israel Hospital of Brooklyn. The following year saw its various departments collectively renamed as United Israel Zion Hospital. 

In the years of expansion and mergers following the end of World War II, the hospital joined with Beth Moses, and the entire complex was renamed in 1966 to honor the great medieval physician and philosopher Moses ben Maimon, popularly known as Moses Maimonides.
